About Sagishima
With a population of just 600, Sagishima is one of Setouchi’s lesser-known gems.
Once a key maritime route to Kyoto, the Seto Inland Sea holds echoes of ancient trade and tradition.
Each island here carries its own character, offering a rare chance to experience Japan’s original, untouched landscapes.
Allow yourself to slow down, reconnect, and find peace in the rhythm of island life.

The Spirit of Setouchi
Calm seas, beautiful islands, and echoes of Japan’s maritime past—Setouchi is a region where tradition and nature live in harmony.
Historic scenery from the age of sailing ships remains beautifully preserved, offering travelers a chance to reflect and restore their inner balance.

Why Visit Sagishima?
Despite its seclusion, Sagishima is easily accessible—just a short trip from both the Shinkansen and Hiroshima Airport.
In spring, the island bursts into bloom with cherry blossoms; in summer and beyond, its citrus groves perfume the air.
The islanders live in gentle harmony with the land and sea, offering warm hospitality to visitors seeking rest, healing, and genuine connection.

Ooyamazumi Shrine
Located on nearby Oomishima Island in Ehime Prefecture, Ooyamazumi Shrine is the head shrine of all Yamazumi shrines in Japan.
Dedicated to the mountain deity Ooyamazumi-no-Mikoto, the shrine’s roots stretch back before the Heian period.
On its grounds stands a majestic camphor tree believed to be over 2,600 years old—a living symbol of Japan’s sacred natural heritage.
